  Josiah Tryon Dies at Age 87

    Josiah Tryon was born May 06, 1798 in Wethersfield, Connecticut, USA, the son of Josiah Tryon and Mary Warner.

Josiah moved to Lewiston with his wife, Mary, in 1835 and opperated a tailor shop.

Josiah Tryon was believed to be the Lewiston station master of the Underground Railroad.
Josiah used his skills as a tailor to make brightly colored jackets, He reportedly befriended bounty hunters and slave catchers and gave them jackets as gifts. Friends and supporters of the Underground Railroad could easily identify anyone wearing the jackets as slave hunters.

Josiah died in 1886 and is buried in Lewiston New York.

1918 - Lydia Ann Overstreet passed away.
1885 - William Howard Kentner was born.
1881 - Thomas Leroy Page was born.
1864 - James Libby Tryon was born.
