Yesterday, April 25, 1982, a Sunday afternoon, we visited the old Burial Ground in Canning. Canning was at one time known as Mudge's Hollow. My Mudge ancestors are buried there. It is an unmarked piece of land in behind the "Johnson Property" with its own laneway from the road in. We first visited there in 1968 and on that trip there was: Jack Halliburton, my husband, Mary Shea, my daughter and Miss Helen Elveretta Mudge, my sister and myself Grace Mudge Halliburton. There have been several treks back through the years since 1968. Yesterday we were still just four, Mary Ellen, her two daughters and myself. Linda Shea had never been to Canning and found it very interesting. Carol now Mrs Lazenby had visited once or maybe twice previously. Standing on the slightly elevated ground near the markers which are now all in a straight row and looking around the sky line and taking in the still rural scenery my thoughts went back over the years to when these people had died and had been buried here. I'm truly glad some of my grand daughters are taking an interest in the "Mudge Family Roots". Who knows, 100 years from now will there still be someone as interested as we are.
