John Halliburton arrived in Canada in 1911 and by 1917 had acquired the Spring Water & Ice Company. He moved his family to the 56 Clarence Street, Guelph location, the site of the family home and business. In the Clarence Street yard was the Ice House.

The J. Halliburton and Sons Company was also involved in the sand and gravel business and in trucking.

With the evolution of refrigeration the traditional ice business declined. In 1945 John Halliburton's son Jack moved the ice business to 14 Clarence Street. The demand continued to move toward the recreational use of ice and the business became largely a retail sales yard for smaller blocks, crushed ice and bagged ice cubes.

On November 12, 2024 we commemorate the anniversary of the following events that occurred in the history of the Halliburton Family and descendents:

1873 - Mordaunt Plant Haliburton passed away.
