What was Nellie's real name and age ?
Later in life Nellie was required to apply for a birth certificate to be eligible for government pension as she did not have any documentation of her birth. It appears that a fire in the Ospringe town hall in 1915 destroyed the original records.
When the birth certificate was issued, it was issued in the name of Hellen May born May 23rd 1899.
In a hand written document that sources the Cunningham family bible she is listed as Ellen May born March 18 1897.
On Nellie's wedding documents in 1920 her name is listed as Ellen May Cunningham age 21.
Nellie had always celebrated her birthday on March 18th but she was unsure of the year of her birth but thought maybe that it was around 1900.
